Week 3 added many more wrinkles to the already crazy college football season. Here are my main takeaways from Week 3:
1. Oklahoma and Clemson are BAD
Let me make one thing clear: Oklahoma did not win this game, Nebraska just blew the game for themselves. Nebraska missed two field goals, had an extra point blocked and returned for two, and had countless amounts of penalties. Oklahoma’s offense could run the ball, but the passing game was not there from Spencer Rattler, who had countless passes that should have been picked off. The only positive for Oklahoma in this game is their defense making the interception OF THE YEAR.
To put Clemson’s very narrow win over Georgia Tech into perspective, consider this: Georgia Tech lost to Northern Iowa, who just got beat by 53 points to Michigan. And Clemson was playing this game at home in a full Death Valley. Clemson’s offense only put up 14 points and DJ continued to do nothing special. He has yet to throw for more than 200 yards in a game this season (he threw for 439 last year at Notre Dame). Clemson clearly has a lot to fix, and the fact that they are still ranked in the top ten baffles me.
2. SEC Bias is real and alive
The Big 10 is the best conference in football. Take that SEC fans. While the rankings include six teams from both leagues, the SEC doesn’t deserve all those and it is due to the strong SEC bias in the national media.
The Big 10 and SEC both have three teams in the top ten, but the Big 10 teams have more impressive resumes. Penn State and Iowa have way better wins than Texas A&M or honestly Georgia, after seeing how poorly Clemson has been playing.
Texas A&M has beaten no one, is on their backup qb, and is still ranked 7th. Meanwhile, Michigan, who has actually looked dominant in their three wins, is ranked all the way back at 19. Try telling me that is not SEC bias.
Auburn did not move in the polls despite their loss, but if that were a team from any other conference they would have dropped for sure.
I will continue hating on the SEC and proving that they really are not the best.
3. Bama is beatable
If Florida hadn't missed an extra point, the Tide very well could have left the Swamp with a loss. Bama jumped out to a 21-7 lead in the first quarter, but then the Florida defense stepped up and the Tide’s offense struggled. The most glaring red flag Bama showed was their defense against the run. They let the Gators average 6 yards per rush. This is awesome for college football because it means Alabama can be beaten.
4. Ole Miss Offense=on fire
Ole Miss quarterback Matt Coral threw 3 touchdowns and rushed for 4 in one game. Coral is now the Heisman favorite and clearly the best quarterback in the SEC. Ole Miss easily put up 61 points against Tulane (who Oklahoma barely beat) with their electric offense. The defense has had slightly better numbers as well, which is setting up Ole Miss to be one of the most fun teams. I will be counting down the days until Lane Kiffin and the Rebels travel to Tuscaloosa in Week 5.
5. Texas A&M= Overrated
Texas A&M has done nothing to show they are a real threat, and should be ranked in the mid teens, not top ten. Texas A&M went to Colorado and barely came out with a 10-7 win, but when Minnesota visited this weekend, they easily won 30-0. The Aggies are supposed to have such a good defense, but Minnesota was able to hold Colorado to 63 THE WHOLE GAME. Meanwhile, Texas A&M gave up 260 yards when they played Colorado.
On top of their overrated defense, the Aggies offense has not been very impressive. Their starting quarterback, who did not look special in his debut, is out, and now they are onto backup Zach Calzada. I expect Texas A&M to start losing soon once they have to play teams that are halfway decent.
6. Pac 12 Disaster
After just 3 weeks, the Pac 12 is already a complete mess:
Their flagship program, USC, fired their coach after two games.
Multiple teams lost this weekend to Group of 5 teams (Arizona to Northern Arizona, UCLA to Fresno State, and Utah to San Diego State)
Oregon is the only undefeated team left
7. I was perfect at picking the Week 3 games
