Reacting the the first CFP Rankings

I should have known better. Year after year, the committee proves its loyalty to the SEC and their complete disregard for the G5, but I somehow convinced myself that this year would be different. WRONG

These rankings have so many holes I don’t even know where to start.

First, the SEC bias is shining bright again. Alabama at number two, are you actually serious? First, they have a loss, and there are three other quality unbeaten teams out there. Second of all, who is their best win? It would be Ole Miss at home, but honestly Ole Miss doesn’t seem as great as we thought they would be. Besides this game, they have not been impressive. Between being a failed two point conversion away from losing to a 4-4 Florida team and being in a close game deep into the fourth quarter with Tennessee at home, the Tide have absolutely not played the part of a top four team, let alone the second best team in the country.

The SEC has the most teams in the CFP rankings (7), which is very unjustified. You’re telling me that a Mississippi State team with 3 losses, including Memphis, is really the 16th best team. It is clear that the Bulldogs are this high because they can use it to say Alabama's win over them it a really good win, when it' s just not. Mississippi State is not any better than any of the two loss Big Ten teams, who are either unranked or much lower. They obviously are raising all these SEC teams up so high to justify putting Alabama at 2. However, if you look into who these teams have played and the stats they’ve put up, the SEC in no way deserves to have this many ranked teams.

It is extremely clear that UC will not be making the playoffs unless all hell breaks loose and they have no other choice. The unveiling started off suspicious when SMU and Houston were both left out. Both of these teams have played like top 25 teams and are arguably better than Iowa, Minnesota, and Wisconsin, who all made it. Then, what I should have seen coming.. UC at six.

The undefeated Bearcats received no respect, being put behind three one loss teams. And Oregon’s loss was to Stanford, a team that is not even going to make a bowl game. And the committee can’t use the logic that UC was in two tight games because Oregon got caught in those too.

When asked to defend the rankings, Barta said, “we know they beat Notre Dame, but who else?” Are you seriously kidding me? Half of the team above them don’t even have a signature win. Who are Georgia and Ohio State’s best wins? But UC beats a top ten team on the road and it still doesn't count for anything.

One of the most shocking things was Oklahoma at number 8. I was expecting them to be in the top 5 at least, especially being undefeated and with Caleb Williams playing better. While I agree with the logic that they have been in too many tight games, I don’t think they should be above these one-loss teams. After all, they have found a way to survive so far.

If it were up to me, these would be my top 10:

  1. Georgia

  2. Michigan State

  3. UC

  4. Oklahoma

  5. Wake Forest

  6. Oregon

  7. Ohio State

  8. Alabama

  9. Michigan

  10. Notre Dame

I forgot how upset these rankings make me and how illogical they can be. I need to be a committee member and kick all these biased, stupid, and corrupt men out.
