Creating My College Super Leagues

Although the proposed soccer Superleague only lasted a few days before it unraveled, it inspired me to think about what a college sports superleague would look like. I would not favor a superleague in any way, as it would ruin the sport, but if one was created, these would be who I would include:

College Football (in no particular order)

  1. Alabama

  2. Clemson

  3. Notre Dame

  4. Ohio State

  5. Oklahoma

  6. USC

  7. Nebraska

  8. Miami

  9. Penn State

  10. Michigan

  11. Auburn

  12. Florida

  13. Texas

  14. Florida State

  15. LSU

Why they were picked:

Recent Success :

Since the birth of the playoffs in 2014, these six teams have all appeared in the playoffs and all but LSU has made multiple appearances. If a superleague were to happen there is no way you could leave these teams out.

-Alabama (2015, 2017, 2020 National Champions)

-Clemson (2016, 2018 National Champions)

-Ohio State (2014 national champion)

-Oklahoma

-Notre Dame

-LSU (2019 national champion)

Early 2000s:

These teams were very dominant during the early 2000s and 2010s, and although they may struggle more of late, they are important teams in the college football atmosphere.

-USC

-Texas

-Florida

-Auburn

-Florida State

Historic Success:

-Penn State

-Michigan

-Nebraska

-Miami

First Cut:

-Georgia has national relevance, but because they don’t have a national title or the highest attendance in the SEC, they get the cut.

College Basketball (in no particular order)

  1. Duke

  2. Kentucky

  3. UNC

  4. Kansas

  5. Georgetown

  6. Indiana

  7. Gonzaga

  8. Villanova

  9. Michigan State

  10. Florida

  11. Cincinnati

  12. Virginia

  13. UCLA

  14. UConn

  15. Arizona

Why they were picked:

No explanation needed:

-Duke

-Kentucky

-UNC

-UCLA

Historic:

Similar to the cfb historic teams, these programs have not had success as of late but have deep histories of college basketball glory.

-Indiana

-Cincinnati

-Georgetown

-Michigan State

More Recent Powerhouses:

These programs have excelled in the last decade, all making national championship games, in large part because of their current coaches who have turned the programs around.

-Villanova

-Gonzaga

-Virginia

Teams that are always hanging around the top 25:

All of these teams have a claim to a National Championship and are routinely ranked in the top 25. They may not be powerhouses every year, but they consistently field competitive teams.

-Arizona

-Florida

-Kansas

-UConn
