General Notes:

Just when it seemed like college football was figuring out its rhythm for this season, a huge wrench was thrown in those plans with the Big 10s announcement that they actually would be playing this fall. The Big 10 presidents reverted their decision to have all fall sports play in the spring, and declared that football could start practicing on September 30 and games can begin the weekend of October 23-24. The Big 10’s covid protocols are much stricter than the other conferences, with teams getting tested daily and if someone were to have a positive test, they would be out for 21 days. The Big 10’s re-entry will completely change this season. Before, there was thought to be an open playoff spot for a group of five teams open, but with the Big 10 back, all hope for that is gone. With the Big 10’s return, it will provide more exciting matchups in a time when we really need it.

Last week, the Big 12 had their top teams shine, while others looked less than ready . Kansas State, Kansas, and Iowa State all lost at home to non conference opponents. Iowa State suffered a very disappointing loss to Louisiana, who got their first ever road win against a ranked team. Meanwhile, Texas and Oklahoma both put on a show, with both quarterbacks putting up unreal numbers. The Texas Oklahoma game is already looking like it will be an awesome Red River Showdown.

The AAC starts play this week, and the league seems pretty balanced. UC, UCF, and Memphis are all expected to be really good this year, and they all have a fair shot at winning the league. The problem with the AAC is that since many of the teams are so even leveled, they are going to beat each other up. The chance of one of them going undefeated seems unlikely with what we know about the teams now. Without an undefeated record, their chances at a playoff berth are slim to none.

My Playoff predictions:

1. Clemson

2. Ohio State

3. Alabama

4. Oklahoma

First Four Out: Notre Dame, Florida, Oklahoma State, Penn State

Picks for Week:

(17)Miami at (18)Louisville: Super close game and Louisville wins but I won’t be surprised if it comes down to a field goal at the end

Syracuse at (25)Pitt: Pitt

Austin Peay at (13)Cincinnati: UC wins big

(19)Louisiana at Georgia State: Louisiana carries their moment into another win

Tulsa at (11)Oklahoma State: Chubba Hubbard leads the Oklahoma team to a big win

South Florida at (7)Notre Dame: Notre Dame

(14)UCF at Georgia Tech: Georgia Tech looks to ride their win over Florida State, but UCF has most of their starters returning, and will win pretty easily.

Citadel at (1)Clemson: This game is a joke. Clemson will win huge.
