College Football Week 2

Updated: Sep 19, 2020

Week 1 (9/12/20)

AP Top 10 Going Into Weekend:

  1. Clemson

  2. Ohio State

  3. Alabama

  4. Georgia

  5. Oklahoma

  6. LSU

  7. Penn State

  8. Florida

  9. Oregon

  10. Notre Dame

*includes teams that are not playing

General Notes:

It's officially back. Although it's not close to college football as we know it, it's a start. College Football officially returns, with the ACC, AAC, Sun Belt, Big 12, and Conference USA all playing this weekend, and the SEC joining at the end of September. Without the Big 10 and Pac 12, the season will be very different, but in these crazy times, a little bit of football is better than nothing.

This first week will be extremely interesting to see how teams play after having such a different pre season due to Covid. After Navy's 53-3 loss to BYU Monday night, it was clear that Navy not practicing tackles in practice caused a huge issue. Each team reacted to practicing with the new protocols differently, and I am sure it will be evident in their play this weekend. I expect there to be lots of mistakes made by players on all teams.

Preseason Playoff predictions:

1. Clemson

2. Alabama

3. Notre Dame

4. Wildcard team (can't decide between UC, Oklahoma State, Florida, or Texas)

Picks for Week:

LA Lafayette at (23)Iowa State: Iowa State, led by veteran quarterback Brock Purdy, will beat Louisiana. Although Louisiana is coming off a 11-3 win season with their first bowl game win in five years, they do not have enough to keep up with an experienced Iowa State team for the whole game.

Syracuse at (18)UNC: This game will show if all the preseason hype around UNC is justified. If Syracuse can play good defense the first half may be close, but Sam Howell will help the Tar Heels pull away for an easy win.

Arkansas State at Kansas State: this game will be a close game with many mistakes from both teams, but Kansas State will get the victory

Duke at (10)Notre Dame: Notre Dame wins big in their first ACC conference game

Georgia Tech at Florida State: It will be interesting to see the team chemistry with Florida State, as new coach Mike Norvell from Memphis has already been called out by players during the off season for exaggerating claims. Florida State had one of the worst offensive lines in the country last season, so this could be a huge issue if they didn’t fix it, especially considering Georgia Tech has an experienced roster coming back. I pick Georgia Teach to win, as Florida State just does not seem to be very stable right now.

(1)Clemson at Wake Forest: Clemson wins in a blowout

Western KY at Louisville: Louisville wins easily

Missouri State at Oklahoma: True freshman Spencer Rattler puts on show in his first game leading the Sooners to victory.

Coastal at Kansas: Both teams are coming off rough 2019 seasons and Kansas wins in a close game.
