Breaking Down College Football Week 10

College Gameday will be airing from UC for the first time ever Saturday morning from 9-12.

My Picks:

Liberty at (15)Ole Miss: Hugh Freeze will be returning to his former employer with a Liberty team that has not quite lived up to expectations. However, their offense still puts up big numbers, which they can do pretty easily against the Rebels defense. I am interested in watching the battle between the two quarterbacks, Malik Willis and Matt Coral, who could both end up being first round draft picks. I expect Ole Miss to pull away in the fourth quarter for the win.

(10)Wake at UNC: If Wake’s Cinderella season is going to come back to reality, this seems like the game that will get them. Carolina has the offense to get into a shootout, and the Tar Heels are comfortable playing in tight games. Although everyone is picking Carolina to upset, I think Wake will still win, but it will be a very tight game.

(6)Ohio State at Nebraska: Nebraska is 3-6 and will be piling on another lost season, but they have only lost by 25 points total the whole season. Every week they find a new heartbreaking way to lose. Scott Frost repeats every week in the presser that something needs to change but so far no changes have been visible. Unless he pulls the most unlikely upset against the Buckeyes, I think Nebraska will have to send their favorite son packing. I do think Nebraska will cover the spread, but I don’t see them beating Ohio State.

(11)Oklahoma State at WVU: The Mountaineers have built up some momentum, with three straight wins, and look tougher than their 4-4 record indicates. I honestly don’t know too much about either team but I think this could be a trap game for Oklahoma State and I will take the upset here.

(12)Auburn at (13)Texas A&M: This game quietly has big implications on the SEC West champion. If Auburn beats Alabama in the Iron Bowl, which I think can happen, then the winner of this game (as long as they don’t lose again), would be the West champion. The Aggies and Tigers have both improved their offenses in recent games. Texas A&M’s defense is strong, and they should be able to push Bo Nix around. Nix has historically struggled on the road, but this season has turned that around a bit. I think Texas A&M has a better defense so I will pick them to win in a close game.

(5)Michigan State at Purdue: This game would make me very, very nervous as a Spartan fan. Purdue has a history of playing spoiler, and the Spartans will likely be on letdown from their huge win. Kenneath Walker looked unstoppable last weekend, and the Purdue rush defense isn’t great. Purdue’s offense is also very inconsistent; against Iowa they were great but then turned around and played awful against Wisconsin. I think the Spartans will win in a close game.

Tusla at (2)UC: UC needs a complete destruction of Tulsa here. It’s homecoming, GameDay is here, and they just got dissed by the selection committee, so they should have plenty of motivation. I hope this game is electric.

(7)Oregon at Washington: The stakes of this game were raised after Washington’s coach Jimmy Lake claimed Washington was a superior academic institution. This is always a tough game for either team, but Washington is usually doing better than they currently are. I think Oregon could be a bit overconfident after they received their top four ranking. I would expect a pretty close game here but ultimately an Oregon win.

I am expecting this to be the greatest weekend of college football ever since I am starting my day actually attending college Gameday, the show that spurred my college football love. They are finally coming to UC, and I expect the crowd to put on a show.

Playoff Predictions:

  1. Georgia

  2. Oklahoma

  3. Michigan State

  4. Alabama (lose in SEC championship game but become first two loss team to get in)

These are not the four most deserving teams but after seeing how low the committee is going to play this year these are my realistic predictions

Heisman Watch:

  • Kenneth Walker III MSU RB

  • CJ Stroud OSU QB

  • Kenny Pickett Pitt QB

  • Matt Coral Ole Miss QB
